Good start for the New Year

Slightly changing things up, today we have a Captain's Match Report thanks to Craig Edmunds.

We turned up at Faversham and were lucky to have a few late additions to the team (thanks to Ivesy, Tommie, James and Nick, and Faversham for loaning a few players to make it a 15 on 15 match).
We started the game well, so well in fact that Ryan Edmunds, 2 minutes into his rugby debut, managed to go over and score in the corner (a very proud Dad moment for our captain on the day Craig!), unfortunately, conversion missed! From the restart we were back on the hunt and Nick brushed of a few tackles to go over underneath the posts. Faversham then got a bit of gusto and scored. It then gets a bit hazy who scored but Tippey, Nick (again), Karlos and Dom scored. Faversham got a couple of tries back but we were pulling way.
We were going up hill second half and Ivesy, Mags and James came on as subs. There was a period of 10 minutes when Faversham were pushing hard through their forwards to score, some great defending was keeping them out before a penalty turned over possession and the kick went out around the 22. On our own try-line but with possession, we decided to attempt run it out rather than kick to clear our lines, James agreed and passed to Calum at inside centre, catching the ball basically on his own try line, he saw an on-rushing Faversham defence. Spotting a gap and after a swerving run and a few hand-offs, was clear down the touchline and ran the length of the pitch. Putting on the afterburners to get away from the chasing Faversham players, he dotted down under the posts, a worldie of a try, and was awarded Man of the Match by the Faversham for this, mainly to see him drink a dirty pint! Ivesy was immense for the 20 minutes he was on and powered over from a tap penalty to cap a great cameo after a long time away from the squad. This knocked the stuffing out of Faversham and we went on to get a well deserved win.
Thanks to all who stepped up and to Faversham for being great hosts, and for our travelling fans cheering from the side lines.

A great start to 2024! Up the NAG!
