12. New Ash Green RFC Youth code of Conduct

Coaches

All youth coaches are CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checked and we attend regular coaching and refereeing courses along with formal RFU coaching courses so that we are fully conversant with techniques and recommended RFU latest training methods.

Guidelines are provided by the RFU within a set of rules called the continuum for clubs to follow and ensure good practice in terms of coaching, safety, child protection and all aspects of the game. The structure is progressive through the age groups and stipulates the development structure of the game through the age ranges.

The welfare of the players is of paramount importance, abuse in any form will not be tolerated.
The RFU categorises four main headings:-
Emotional, Neglect, Physical Abuse and Sexual Abuse.

The continuum can be downloaded from the official RFU website: http://www.rfu.com/TheGame/~/media/Files/2010/TheGame/Regulations/RFU%20Regulation%2015.ashx

Players

Play the game because you want to. In the correct spirit – it is not all about winning, enjoyment and sportsmanship in victory and defeat are equally important.
Make sure you have the correct kit;
• Gum shields are strongly recommended for use by the RFU for all age groups.
• Boots in good clean order – studs are kite marked aluminium or rubber moulded screw in type. (Blades are not strictly banned at the moment but there are some concerns so it is preferable to avoid them)
• Clothing must not have sharp items such as zippers that can cause injury.
• Head guards are recommended for use by the club.

Be on time for coaching and fixtures and listen to the Coach’s instructions.
Play to the laws of the game and accept the match official’s decisions whether good or bad.
Have regard for your fellow players, give support and encouragement, never criticise a fellow player.
Bullying will not be tolerated.

Remember Enjoyment, Skill Development and Friendship is what it is all about.

Spectators

Encourage, Support, Respect.
Remember the players are playing for their benefit and enjoyment not yours.
Applaud good individual and team performance whether New Ash Green or the Opposition.
Encourage players whatever their ability and never ridicule or criticise a player.
Never verbally abuse players, officials or fellow spectators.
Respect the referees’ decisions, remember they are volunteers and without them we would not have the opportunity to play.

Report it
If any player, parent, guardian, coach or volunteer has any concerns about the behaviour of any individual associated with the club please contact the Child Protection Officer, the Senior Chairman or the Youth chairman.
